What is HOMOSALAT (Homomenthyl salicylate, HMS, HS; 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate)? Is an organic compound belonging to salicylates. Salicylates protect against harmful solar radiation by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) light. Homosalate absorbs the shortwave UVB rays, which are associated with DNA damage and an increased risk of skin cancer.
In the new SCCS opinion, the use of Homosalate as a UV filter in cosmetic products is safe for the consumer at a maximum concentration of 1.4% in the final product.
